Information

The unrealised design envisaged a one-storey elongated box where individual spaces like an information centre, storage, staff room, sanitary facilities, changing room and washroom lie next to one another along a corridor. Lockable bicycle boxes were to have been situated above this box, accessed via a ramp.

As there was no satisfactory outcome for the jury in the first competition (see ESCAPE*spHERE)a second one had to be organised. Unfortunately this exciting winning project could not be realised as it very subtly respects the existing topography, the tree stock and the structure of the existing paths. The concept for an accessible sculpture consisting of a one-storey linear box in which the individual spaces such as the Info Centre, storage space, staff room, sanitary facilities, changing room and laundry are thread along the corridor for circulation. Above this box lies the actual Bicycle Garage, running over it. Brigitte Löcker designed a ramp that leads onto the roof of the Info-box, where it continues flat on a second level raised above this roof. The boxes for the bicycles are stored to the side of this 'cycle path', while the doors of the lockable boxes have been treated with different colours facing the ramp to create interesting effects with the colour that can only partially be appreciated from outside. When the user has stored their bike and their luggage a single staircase leads from the upper level back onto the level of the Stadtpark. The concept is both very rational and space-saving as well as being sophisticated aesthetically.
