Main Square in Hollabrunn

Information

The architect duo's concept envisaged marking the ground of Hauptplatz with an oversized 'H' for Hollabrunn. It was intended as a logo to make the location a marketable commodity while lending the square a sense of unity and also changing the way the community is perceived visually. The project was not realised.

According to sputnic the division of the main square in streets, parking areas, pedestrian zones, green areas and individual objects (such as different flower pots, statues and benches) made it impossible to experience the space in its entirety and difficult to orient oneself. To improve the appearance of the town center of Hollabrunn they thus suggested for the first phase a measure to promote integration: "development of a holistic strategy for town renewal integrating everyone involved" (sputnic). Accordingly, they first wanted to set a sign to "draw attention and trigger emotions of the inhabitants, business people, authorities, investors and visitors for Holabrunn” (sputnic): H like Hollabrunn is thus a sign for "a new start that
– addresses the square and the community as an over-dimensional ground marking
– brings together the divided parts of the square
– changes the surface
– creates new areas in the square
– alters the perception of the location
– can be marketed as logo by means of postcards, publications, tourist information material, events and usages." (sputnic)
